5x3: 1967 Topps #480, HOF Willie McCovey (San Francisco Giants) - PSA 6.5

$116.25

Willie McCovey was one of the game’s very best players from 1965 to 1970, posting WARs at or above 5.0 each one of those years and averaging 6.4 during those six seasons. 1967 came immediately before one of the most dominant back-to-back seasons ever in 1968 and 1969, when McCovey (including during the so-called Year of the Pitcher in 1968) led the league in home runs (81 total) and RBIs (231 total) both seasons. He also led the league in slugging and OPS from 1968 to 1970. His 1967 campaign was more of a “pedestrian” Hall of Fame caliber season, batting .276 with 31 hoe runs and 91 RBIs to pair with a .913 OPS. He had four RBIs in five separate games, all of which the Giants won and four of which they won by four runs or fewer.

With strong centering, crisp registration, and vibrant coloring (especially the sky blue, green font, and facial shading) we think this card presents great for the grade.  Perhaps the very beginnings of corner wear account for the grade, but we see no reason this could not have been a 7 or 7.5.  Has good potential for regrading.
