5x3: Lot of (18) 1960 Topps Commons, Mostly Excellent Condition

$27.75

In one of the most famous post-war World Series, the Pirates upset the New York Yankees in 1960, in seven games, on a walk-off solo home run by Bill Mazeroski in the bottom of the 9th of Game 7. Joe DeMaestri, whose card is in this lot, played in four games but only had two at-bats, going 1-2 and scoring a run in Game 2. Bob Friend, whose card is also in this lot, started two games but struggled, giving up seven earned runs in six innings and taking the loss both times. He also gave up two earned runs in the top of the 9th of Game 7, which allowed for Mazeroski’s heroics. The series is a stain on Friend’s impressive career with the Pirates. His 47.6 career WAR as a Pirates pitcher is third-most in the storied franchise’s history most in the post-war era.

This lot contains 18 commons from the 1960 Topps set, mostly in excellent (EX) condition, with a few outliers in lesser or better condition.  Cards assessed as less than EX condition are noted below.  A few having minor wrinkling, mostly near corners.  All are free of major defects.  All cards are pictured, see photographs for additional information on condition.

This 5×3 Dutch auction started on December 20th, 2025, at $46.50. It will be reduced by 5% every three days until it is sold. Please see Additional Info for the full list of cards and bid reduction schedule.
