1958 was right in the middle of a stretch which included six straight 20+ win seasons, five of which led the league in the category. He won 22 games, posted a 3.07 ERA, and led the league with 23 complete games and 290 innings pitched. He pitched nine full innings in each of his first seven starts of the season, although the first was not a complete game as it went to extras. Of his 23 complete games, only two were shutouts, on April 19th against the Phillies and on August 3rd against the Giants. He also led the league in both batters faced and WHIP.
