DASC connects the consignor to the buyer and also benefits in the process. Here is a transparent look at how DASC operates and benefits.
1) Receives cards for consignment and consults (if desired) with the consignor on how to best package the cards by lot. For cards worth about $15 or more, that will typically be as singles. Since all starting bids must be $25 or more, cards worth less than $15 should often be grouped together in a multi-card lot.
2) Lists each lot on (at least) ebay.com and dutchauctionsportscards.com according to the consignor’s final decision.
3) Gradually reduces the bid for each lot according to the Dutch auction type identified by the consignor for the lot.
4) Markets items, in bulk and specifically, at its discretion and expense.
5) Reserves the right to purchase any lot at 86.75% of the current ebay.com bid price at any given time. This protects the consignor from selling an item at a price substantially lower than market value and is one way DASC can profit, since it will typically purchase cards at below estimated market value.
6) Fills orders through ebay.com. DASC does not profit on these orders, as the $2 or less plus 2% on each card is designed to cover operating and marketing costs only. After paying the final sale fee to eBay, all remaining proceeds from the sale itself are returned to the consignor. However, by filling orders through ebay.com, DASC may gain new buyers to its site and may gain new consignors, as well.
7) Fills orders through dutchauctionsportscards.com and other platforms. Since the consignor receives 86.75% of the current bid price on ebay.com at the time of the sale, and the dutchauctionsportscards.com price is always 92.5% of the current bid price on ebay.com, DASC makes a small profit on these sales.
Dutch Auction Sports Cards (DASC)
The Bottom Line
-DASC has three primary revenue sources: consignment (listing and starting bid) fees, commission on consignment sales through its site, and sale of sports cards owned by DASC.
-DASC gains exposure through sales on eBay, but any profits on those sales are negligible.
-DASC personnel always enjoy an intrinsic benefit: the satisfaction of facilitating the transaction of sports cards from one collector to another.
